Distracted & Impaired Driving Demonstration

On Tuesday, April 14th the Kiowa County EMS had the Safe Kids Kiowa County program on hand to demonstrate to the students of Kiowa County High School and South Central High School just how difficult it is to function when you are distracted or impaired.

Students had the opportunity to drive a couple of different courses while being distracted with various tasks, and then drive the courses again while wearing the drunk buster goggles.  A number of cones were knocked down during the demonstration, but it gave the students a much better understanding of how difficult it is to operate a vehicle when you are not fully focused on the road.

Students also took part in a variety of other activities (ring toss, cup stacking, etc. . .) while wearing the drunk buster goggles to help them understand how even the simplest tasks can become difficult when you are impaired.

Kiowa County Schools would like to send a big "Thank You" to Rosa Spainhour and the entire Kiowa County EMS crew for bringing the Safe Kids Kiowa County program to the school.
