KCJH Impact Character Crew Visits the Senior Center
On January 30, the KCJH Character Crew committee from Impact and the Impact sponsor, Mrs. Headrick, visited the Sr. Center to socialize with the senior citizens there. Character Crew is one of 6 committees in Impact (a leadership organization for junior high students) that is devoted to character development, citizenship, and service. By visiting the seniors, the students feel like they are spending time and giving back to a group of people who have done so much for our communities over the years. While the students were there, they divided up into two groups. One group played pool and one group played Wii Bowling with the seniors. In addition to those fun activities, Mrs. Headrick talked to the seniors about the Impact organization's structure and goals. Also, Alex Friesen, 8th grader and student co-chair for Character Crew, talked about her favorite Impact activity--a trip to Cherokee, OK where students packaged food for the hungry with a non-profit organization called Kids Against Hunger. The Character Crew committee is planning a return trip to Cherokee to package food again this spring. Character Crew will return to the Sr. Center once a month, usually on the birthday celebration day, to spend time and get to know people there. Their next trip will be on February 27.
