Stamm's Experience Shows Through in Classroom

Mrs. Stamm details an assignment for her class of third graders.

New Third Grade Teacher Enjoys Kids

There are many new faces here at USD 422 this year. Among them is third grade teacher, Carol Stamm. Stamm has been teaching for seven years, and this is her first year to teach the third grade. Although this is her rookie year with third graders, Stamm definitely does not lack experience with children. Before coming to Greensburg, Stamm taught pre-school for children with disabilities for five years in Wellington and elementary vocal music last year in LaCrosse.

Born into a military family at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Stamm has lived all over the United States, as well as Thailand, Germany, and she even taught in England for a year. When they were not being transferred by the army, she lived mainly around Fort Ord, California. With all of the moving, Stamm grew to love reading. In school, she was in her own reading group because she had read all the Kindergarten and 1st grade books in her rural school library prior to starting school. Still today, Stamm said, “I prefer to read or do something creative and not waste time on the computer or watching TV.”

After graduating from high school and attending LPN nursing school in California, graduating from Friends University in Wichita, KS with her teaching degree, and getting a partial master completion from Wichita State University, Stamm lived in Wellington on a farm for fourteen years and taught for five of those years.

Stamm had been to Greensburg twice prior to the tornado on May 4, 2007. When asked what it was like coming to Greensburg after the natural disaster she replied, “I love small towns as I am a country girl at heart.  I’m not a mall person. I do miss not having restaurants, fast food places, and I do miss not having a larger grocery store and Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby close by. I think Greensburg is a great town and everyone is so friendly and caring. Businesses will come back and the town will grow.” Five years from now she sees herself in Greensburg, still teaching third grade.

Not only does Stamm have experience with children through teaching, but also at home. She has six children, three boys and three girls, four grandchildren, and has raised nine foster children. When it comes to a passion for helping children, she is second to none.
