Kiowa County Elementary School Annual Food Drive

For several years, Elementary Impact has been sponsoring an annual food drive for the local food bank, located next door to Care and Share on Main Street. This is a project used to practice our core value of treating others right. "It's important for students to start understanding and considering the needs of others. This year, we have had several big ideas (value words of the month) that come into play during the food drive: service, initiative, cooperation, friendship. This project allows students (and actually our whole community) to practice those values," says PK-8 counselor and Impact sponsor, Kathy Headrick.

Elementary Impact is a voluntary leadership experience group for 5th graders that has enjoyed 100% participation for the last two years. Students in this group host monthly character assemblies for the elementary school, help operate activity stations before school starts to give students something fun and productive to do before the are dismissed by the bell to go to their classrooms, and hosted an annual talent show. Group members are learning to be creative thinkers, they are learning to speak in public, and they are learning to lead by example through their participation in Impact. For the food drive, each Impact member is assigned to a younger grade as a team captain and there is a friendly competition to see which grade brings the most items per student (to give smaller classes a chance against larger classes).

If you know a PK-4th grade student and would like to donate items to their class, please contact that student and send items to school with them.
