Physical Science Roller Coaster Project

Mrs. Greenleaf's Physical Science class has been hard at work, and probably having a little fun at the same time. The students were given the task of designing a roller coaster based off the Law of Conservation of Energy. The Law states that energy cannot be created or destroyed just transferred to another type. They used that law to build a roller coaster that had one loop, 2 hills and the marble (person) must come to a stop within 10cm of the end of the 12ft track without hitting a barrier. We built the roller coasters on the walls of the mezzanine in both gyms using foam pipe insulation and masking tape. The student had to run their roller coaster for the class completing four timed trials with out it falling off.
