Second Grade Trip to the Corn Field

On October 16th, the Kiowa County second graders visited the Gamble cornfield and were able to ride the combine.  This is the eleventh year the second graders have had the opportunity to do this.  After Kim and Ki presented a mini-lesson about corn, the second graders took turns riding the combines to see the corn being picked.  The second graders then learned when corn is planted and what it needs to produce a field full of corn.  They also learned what corn is used for and that the field of corn they were in was used to feed cattle at the feed lot.  Finally, they learned about the importance of safety around farm machinery.  At the end of their visit, they were treated with a drink and a bag of Corn Nuts.  The second graders had a great time visiting the Gamble cornfield!
